Cleft Palate and Oronasal Fistulas
Communications between the oral and nasal cavities can be congenital, traumatic, or secondary to other diseases such as periodontal disease. This will lead to significant upper airway disease and has the potential to cause pneumonia. Closure of these defects can be a challenge and unsuccessful attempts complicate a second or third attempt at closure due to loss of viable donor tissue. New developments in grafting materials have provided more options for repair of these defects.
