Evaluation and treatment of chronic ear infections using video otoscopy
In dogs, allergies are the most common cause of chronic ear infections. Our Dermatologist is specially trained to treat allergies and ear infections. In many chronic cases, appropriate management of the allergy is crucial to resolving the ear infection. In some cases, the dermatologist may recommend a video-otoscopy procedure. Video-otoscopy involves anesthetizing your pet and placing a small video camera into the ear canal. This allows better visualization than the regular handheld otoscope. The image is magnified and pictures can be printed or saved. This allows closer inspection of the tympanic membrane and any growths present. Other conditions that may benefit from video-otoscopy include tumors and foreign objects in the ear canal.
