What is a Veterinary Specialist?

Just as your own primary care doctor might send you to a "specialist" to address an unusual or difficult problem, your family veterinarian may also feel your pet requires a specialist to diagnose or treat certain conditions.
Veterinary specialists have gone through several additional years of advanced training beyond veterinary college. Board certified specialists have achieved the highest level of specialization in veterinary medicine that is possible. Boarded specialists have completed a detailed residency program, met the criteria established by their respective specialty colleges, and passed extensive examinations. They then become “Diplomates” of that college and can list their status after their name.

Our specialists work closely with your family veterinarian to help provide complete veterinary care for your pet. We may assist by providing a second opinion, performing complex diagnostics on a difficult case, or with comprehensive follow up care.

Communication with your family veterinarian is important to insure the best possible solution to your pet’s overall health. If you have concerns, talk to your family veterinarian to see if you’re pet is a candidate for specialty medicine.Cute puppy
